Day 1 (L/D)
Leaving the ship in Callao, you will transfer 45 minutes to the airport in Lima for a flight to Cusco. Meet your guide upon arrival and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
In Cusco, you'll visit Cusco's Coricancha Temple of the Sun, built by the Inca Pachacutec (1438 - 1572). Admire the cathedral in the Plaza de Armas one of the most splendid Spanish colonial churches in the Americas.
Check in with dinner and cultural show at the hotel ( Palacio del Inka Hotel or similar).
Day 2 (B/L/D)
Begin your day with a 2-hour coach ride from Cusco to Rio Sagrado Station. Board the Hiram Bingham train for a 2.75-hour train ride skirting the Urubamba River, which snakes through the Sacred Valley, continually losing elevation from a starting point of approximately 9,350 feet above sea level. Enjoy a welcome drink, a gourmet lunch and an excellent selection of wines. Warm hues, elegant upholstery, two dining cars and a bar make the Hiram Bingham train a pleasant experience indeed.
The timing of this very special adventure enables you to explore the site of Machu Picchu during a less-crowded time, for a more intimate and up-close look at this remarkable historic landmark. From the Aguas Calientes train station, walk to the bus loading area. A 25-minute bus ride up to Machu Picchu, at an elevation of 7,874 feet, is on steep, unpaved, switchback roads. The end reward is to immerse yourself in the timeless history and intangible magic of this strange and wondrous ancient citadel. You'll have plenty of time to explore Machu Picchu -- an awe-inspiring, once-in-a-lifetime experience. This stone city was constructed by incredibly sophisticated techniques with huge blocks of stone fitted together perfectly. Refuel with an afternoon tea at the Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge, transferring back to Aguas Calientes afterwards to re-board the Hiram Bingham train. On the 2¾-hour train ride back to Rio Sagrado station, relax over a cocktail; then, dinner is served in the dining car.
You will arrive back in Cusco in the late evening, after a day of dazzling sightseeing and wonderful memories.
Day 3 (B/L)
Rise early and transfer to the airport for a flight to Lima. A road transfer (approximately six hours) brings you to General San Martin, where the ship is waiting for you.
