Rio de Janeiro: Carioca Landscapes between the Mountain and the Sea
"The site consists of an exceptional urban setting encompassing the key natural elements that have shaped the development of the city: from the highest points of the Tijuca National Park’s mountains down to the sea. They also include the Botanical Gardens, Corcovado Mountain with its celebrated statue of Christ, and the hills around Guanabara Bay, including the designed landscapes along Copacabana Bay which have contributed to the outdoor living culture of this spectacular city."
The 125-foot-tall statue of Christ the Redeemer is the icon of Rio de Janeiro -- an internationally-recognized landmark that requires no explanation. This concrete and soapstone behemoth is first among equals in the list of the world's most famous manmade wonders. It is strikingly perched atop Rio's Corcovado Mountain. Board the electric train for a 15-minute, 2,400-vertical-foot ascent to the top of the 'hunchback'. Take in the breathtaking 360-degree view of Rio and the harbor below, including the city's beaches, buildings and bridges
On the return journey, you'll pass the most famous beaches of Rio -- Leblon, Ipanema and the world-renowned Copacabana -- with a stop for photos.
Please note: Expect heavy traffic congestion and delays as well as long lines at the attractions and steps to climb. Escalators and elevators are available to reach the statue of Christ. This tour may operate differently during Carnival. No guarantee is offered with regard to visibility or views on any particular day, as weather and atmospheric conditions vary. To fully participate may require leisurely walking over primarily even surfaces. There may be a limited number of steps, cobblestones or uneven surfaces, and some standing for extended periods of time. After disembarking the electric train at Corcovado, there are 220 steps to climb to reach the Christ the Redeemer statue. Escalators and elevators are available. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair. If you would like to enjoy this experience with only your private party, please see one of our private car or van options.
