Just thirty miles from Rio de Janeiro lies the summer hill resort of Petropolis -- a town of stunning scenery founded in 1843 by Emperor Dom Pedro II.
The highlight of your day will be a visit to the Imperial Museum, a magnificent pink-and-white building with a neo-Classical façade, which houses the breathtaking Crown Jewels. Fully furnished and authentically equipped, this museum gives the impression that the Brazilian Royal Family, last here in 1889, departed just moments ago. The exhibits are labeled in Portuguese only, so you can explore with your guide if you like.
Continue your tour, passing the Norman-French-style Quitandinha Palace and the cathedral.
Enjoy lunch at a typical churrascaria in Petropolis before returning to the ship in Rio.
Please note: This tour is available only to guests whose cruise does not begin or end in Rio. Photography is prohibited inside the museum. Long lines are to be expected at the attractions and there will be steps to climb. An elevator is available. Shoe covers are provided at the museum and must be worn. During Carnival this tour may operate differently; please expect heavy traffic congestion and delays. Tour does not operate on Mondays or holidays.
