Here's a journey into the heart of Ecuador's cacao country, where you'll taste and explore some of the finest chocolate in the world.
Your day begins with a scenic drive inland to the fertile Guayas region. Enjoy glimpses of the Cerro Blanco Protected Forest — a haven for native wildlife and tropical vegetation. Your guide shares fascinating insights into Ecuador's global reputation for producing premium-quality cacao. Long recognized as a leading producer of high-grade cacao sold under prestigious Swiss and Belgian chocolate labels, Ecuadorian companies today produce world-class chocolate domestically.
Your destination is Hacienda El Castillo, a historic working farm dedicated to sustainable and organic cacao cultivation. You're welcomed with a refreshing cacao juice and a delicious snack of crispy fried plantains paired with fresh regional cheese. On a guided tour of the cacao plantation, witness each stage of the chocolate-making process — planting, harvesting, fermenting, and drying. Taste cacao at the various stages to discover its evolving flavors and textures.
Back at the main house, sit down to a traditional Ecuadorian lunch, prepared with fresh, locally sourced ingredients. A lively folk-dance performance showcases the vibrant rhythms and traditions of Coastal Ecuador, along with its colorful costumes — a joyful celebration.
At the estate's chocolate factory, see how the harvested cacao is transformed into finished chocolate bars and gain a deeper appreciation for the techniques employed to refine flavor and texture.
