Today, immerse yourself in the vibrant world of exotic flowers along Ecuador’s lush coastal region. This enriching journey invites you to admire a dazzling array of tropical blooms, celebrated for their vivid colors, captivating fragrances, and ecological significance.
Your day begins with a scenic drive from the port to Magic Flowers, a pioneering family-run farm certified by Rainforest Alliance/Utz. Nestled in the fertile coastal landscape, this farm cultivates over 1,200 species of native Ecuadorian ferns and exotic Amazonian plants, many of which are exported to the United States and Europe. As you explore the fields, gain firsthand insight into the daily operations of this innovative enterprise and its commitment to sustainable agriculture.
Founded in 1990, Magic Flowers began with a mission to rescue endangered plant species from the Amazon rainforest and adapt them to ecological cultivation. Today, the farm showcases an impressive variety of tropical flowers, including heliconias, gingers, and musas, each with its own unique shape and hue.
The owners will personally guide you through the lush gardens of Hacienda Magic Flowers, offering interactive demonstrations that reveal the secrets of successful flower cultivation. Learn about soil preparation, irrigation systems, pest control, and disease management—all essential components of maintaining a thriving floral ecosystem. Continue to the packing plant, where you’ll witness the meticulous care taken in handling and packaging the flowers for international shipment. This behind-the-scenes look is followed by a refreshing gourmet snack, served in the serene surroundings of the farm.
Next, travel to Ecuagenera, one of Ecuador’s most renowned orchid farms. Here, delve deeper into the fascinating world of orchids, with over 4,000 species cultivated on-site. As you stroll through the greenhouses, marvel at the kaleidoscope of colors and intricate forms that make orchids among the most prized flowers in the world. The farm also specializes in genetic engineering, a meticulous process that allows for the creation of entirely new orchid varieties—each taking at least five years to develop from concept to bloom.
After this immersive botanical experience, relax on the return drive to the port, carrying with you the beauty, knowledge, and inspiration of Ecuador’s floral treasures.
