Discover the many faces of Salvador da Bahia with a glimpse of the city’s intriguing cultural mix of African and European heritage. See the historic district as well as the modern part of Salvador.
Transfer by coach directly to the Farol da Barra, one of the most famous lighthouses in Brazil, and view it from the coach.
Continue to the Pelourinho District—the Old Town. Leave the coach at the Municipal Square, where you can see Lacerda’s Elevator, linking the upper and lower city, and take in the view of All Saints Bay.
Walk to Terreiro de Jesus Square and pass the Baroque Cathedral en route to the Largo do Pelourinho -- a colonial square and pillory where slaves and prisoners were once punished in full view of the gentry. Step inside Our Lady of the Rosary of the Black Man. This very long name belongs to a beautiful church whose construction of the church began in the early 18th century. Slaves built it because they weren’t allowed to enter other churches. During the daytime they worked for their ‘owners’, so the church was built almost entirely at night -- an amazing testament to the slaves’ dedication and determination. Completed about 100 years later, this church is now one of the major attractions in Salvador.
Stroll through Pelourinho’s narrow, cobblestone streets, lined with old buildings that now house art galleries and jewelry and souvenir shops.
You will then have 20 minutes of free time for photos and a sample of coconut water, or a stroll on your own.
End your outing with a delicious local snack and a chance to learn about the famous local Capoeira fight—an icon of Brazil.
