Your tour of Salvador, the first capital of Brazil, includes a panoramic drive through the ‘Low City’ and along the best part of the coastline.
Heading in the direction of the Boa Viagem district, you’ll stop at Colina Sagrada (Sacred Hill) and visit the spectacular Church of Nosso Senhor do Bonfim, dedicated to the protector of sailors. The façade of this church is partially covered with white Portuguese majolica.
Continue along the edge of the Dique do Tororó lagoon, where you will see the Orixás (animist) sculptures. You’ll also pass through the Bohemien district of Rio Vermelho and Ondina to arrive at the Farol da Barra lighthouse. Step off the coach here to take photos and take in the splendid view of All-Saints Bay.
Finally, visit the largest handicraft market in the city -- the famous Mercado Modelo. It occupies the old Customs Building and features the combined handicrafts of Bahia and the Northeast. Stroll among the numerous stalls in search of souvenirs from Africa as well as Brazil.
