Cruising the Hauraki Gulf

The Hauraki Gulf is a large bay cut out of the eastern shore of New Zealand’s North Island. It is bounded by the Coromandel Peninsula in the east, the Barrier Islands in the north and Auckland’s Waitemata Harbour in the west. The gulf is fairly protected by prevailing winds, and dotted with islands that are popular beach destinations for weekenders from Auckland and the rest of the country.
