Scenic cruising Amalia or Brujo Glacier

After entering Peel Fjord from the Sarmiento Channel, the eastern side offers entry to three other fjords. Two of these, Amalia Fjord and Asia Fjord, end in massive walls of ice slowly flowing down from the immense Southern Patagonian Ice Field. Depending on the ice conditions in these fjords, your captain will choose one of the bays to make a slow cruise under the brow of the glacier. Amalia Glacier measures about two miles across at the face, El Brujo glacier, in Asia Fjord, slightly less. But both frequently calve very large floes, with a crack like thunder, that fall hundreds of feet into the bay. The glaciers are part of the Bernardo O’Higgins National Park. As recently as 10,000 years ago, the Patagonian Ice Field completely covered Southern Chile.
