Zihuatanejo (Ixtapa), Guerrero, Mexico

The sheltered bay of Zihuatanejo lies between two promontories, Punta Descanso and Punta San Esteban. The mountains rising abruptly behind the town add to its scenic beauty; Zihuatanejo is frequently compared to the Acapulco of fifty years ago. The main plaza fronts the ocean, and behind the plaza is Avenida Cuauhtemoc, the town's main street, where shops and restaurants are clustered. Small shops and restaurants also line the waterfront promenade immediately to your right as you walk off the pier.
