Today you’ll take an informative stroll through Marigot, a picturesque town located on the French side of the island of St. Martin. Led by a friendly guide, this walk will show you the ins and outs of this fascinating place.
Start the tour with a walk to Fort Louis Hill and climb a set of steps to reach the fort, perfectly situated with a lookout over magnificent vistas. Learn how the fort protected France's treasure from invaders and about the famous Concordia Treaty, which brought lasting peace between the French and Dutch sides of the island. Marvel at the dazzling turquoise waters of the bay below and the beautiful town of Marigot. You can also spot the Lagoon, Simpson Bay, and even the British island of Anguilla. This is a wonderful photo opportunity.
Head back downhill and into the streets of Old Marigot, where a historical feel still very dominant. With its cobblestone streets, colonial architectures, and bustling market square, it evokes a sense of the town’s rich past.
En route to the Galisbay waterfront, you will pass many typical boutiques and cafés. Watch for the old prison, the original lighthouse, and the Fort Louis Marina.
Arriving at the bustling Marigot marketplace gives you license to exercise your taste buds. Chez Fernand La French Bakery, specializes in exquisite delicacies from France. Try their locally-baked pastries, as well as their selection of coffees and teas.
Then in the heart of the marketplace, enjoy a delicious rum tasting with a local vendor – all while enjoying the warm tropical breeze and cultural richness of the island.
Please note: Minimum age is 9 years. This moderately active excursion is suitable only for guests who are in good physical condition. Tour requires climbing some 70 steps and walking approximately one mile, with stopping and standing along the way. Terrain is uneven and uphill in places. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Shade is limited; please dress accordingly. Bring a hat and wear biodegradable sunscreen.
