NORTHWEST PASSAGE CRUISES

Since the 15th century, explorers journeyed in search of a corridor connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, voyaging around Greenland and through the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. These early seafarers were turned back time and again by treacherous weather conditions and thick sea ice. Now you can traverse this fabled passage on an Arctic voyage, before retiring to your oceanview suite.

On August 27, 2023, Seabourn Venture embarked on her first voyage through the Northwest Passage.

This represents a historic day, as she is the very first ship in the corporation to ever set sail for the fabled Northwest Passage. Follow along over the next three weeks as we share coverage of this amazing journey.

Day 14: Johansen Bay & Edinburgh Island, Nunavut, Canada

The morning began in Johansen Bay, where history intertwined with nature. On the Zodiac cruise along the river, guests came upon remnants of Hudson Bay Company hunting sheds, a glimpse into the past with old traps and weathered oil barrels. The Arctic is a tundra desert, and the vivid color was courtesy of lichen, one of the Arctic's many wonders. With over 8,600 recorded types, lichen plays a critical role in helping to shape this unique environment.

The day's adventures did not end there, as later, Seabourn Venture repositioned to Edinburgh Island. Here, the hillsides were teeming with colors from various flora, including the orange lichens seen earlier from Johansen Bay.

As the sun set, guests returned to their home at sea to sip on Expedition Gin and admire the colors of the sky.
