In Molde, it's hard to miss the magnificent panorama of the surrounding 87 snow-capped peaks. The spectacular outlook from the Varden Viewpoint takes in Romsdalsfjord and its many small islands.

Your destination today is the great Atlantic Ocean Road -- a series of bridges and causeways zigzagging from island to island, right out to where the mainland ends and the great ocean begins. The overwhelming might and majesty of the ocean is brought home to you here, and it's quite an unforgettable vista.

The road continues past the area known as Hustadvika. This infamous stretch of sea is dotted with underwater skerries and islets -- essentially a shipwreck waiting to happen.

You'll stop in Bud, a charming fishing village facing the open ocean. Take some photos and look across to the Bjørnsund Islands. These were once a busy, thriving fishing community; today, the buildings there are used as summerhouses.

Follow Frænfjord via Elnes and cross back over the hills into Molde.
